Hillsborough County Tax Collector honors an everyday hero.

TAMPA, FL – (December 8, 2016) – Doug Belden, Tax Collector recognizes Hillsborough County Sheriff Deputy Steve Donaldson for saving baby’s life.

Deputy Donaldson is being honored for his act of heroism on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the East Hillsborough County Tax Collector’s office located at 2814 E. Hillsborough Ave.

On November 4th, 2016, Shakira Nelson ran frantically into the Hillsborough Tax Collector’s East Tampa office with her unresponsive 15-month old son in her arms.
Deputy Donaldson immediately ran to the mother, took hold of the baby, checked his vitals and started to perform CPR.  Eventually the child regained consciousness and started to breathe on his own.  Paramedics arrived shortly after and took the child to hospital for observation.

The Tax collector’s office in conjunction with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office have been working together to reunite Deputy Steve Donaldson with little Cory on December 9th, 2016 at the East Tampa office.
Belden stated, “It is an honor and a pleasure to work in partnership with the Sheriff’s office and I am especially thankful to Deputy Donaldson. His quick, immediate response to a situation is definitely something to celebrate this holiday season.”

**Note for assignment editors: Video of Deputy Donaldson’s act of heroism was recorded on HCTC video surveillance tapes and will be made available on the day of the event. **
