Mr. Belden Issues Statement on Recent Issues with State Systems

Attention customers: I sincerely apologize for the delays you may have experienced with our Motor Vehicle services over the past few days. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV), who is responsible for the motor vehicle database, has been dealing with issues that are impacting this system and therefore impacts the customers we are here to serve. Unfortunately, we are unable to foresee what the delays may be or determine how long the issues may persist as we are at the mercy of the state’s system and I understand how frustrating it is for our customers. I want to ensure you that I am in direct contact with Ms. Terry Rhodes, Executive Director of DHSMV, and with the state legislative leaders regarding the severity of this disruption to our operations and the negative impact it has on our core competency, which is providing excellent customer service.

If you have questions or would like to express your concern over this issue, you may contact the State DHSMV directly by phone: (850) 617-2000 or via their website: I would also recommend contacting your legislative delegation with any concerns you may have about these issues at (813) 653-7097 or you can learn more about who your representatives are at

Doug Belden
Hillsborough County Tax Collector
