Tax Collector to host grand opening for new office

TAMPA, Fla. (Oct. 5, 2004) - Hillsborough County veterans and the rest of the public are invited Oct. 15 to an open house and special dedication of the new Tax Collector Office at the intersection of Waters Avenue and the Veterans Expressway.

The office, which opened earlier this year, will be dedicated to veterans in a special ceremony at 8 a.m. at the office located in the Waters Crossing Shopping Center at 6283 W. Waters Ave.

“Given the location of the office, we felt like it was appropriate to dedicate this office to the men and women who have served in our armed forces,” said Tax Collector Doug Belden. “These veterans have made many sacrifices and this is a small way for us to show our appreciation.”

Several representatives of local and state veterans organizations are expected to attend as well as other dignitaries, said Nancy Millan, director of community relations for the Tax Collector’s Office.

Millan said the event will also include complimentary VIN Etching by the Department of Motor Vehicles, along with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office talking car, Benny the Beatle; the Florida Highway Patrol's rollover display; the Tampa Police Department's DUI Enforcement Squad; MADD exhibits; and the Florida Bloodmobile.

The event is free and will run from 8 a.m. to noon.
