Tourist Development
General Information
Hillsborough County ordinances give the Tax Collector collection and
enforcement authority for the Tourist Development Tax. In Hillsborough
County, a 5% Tourist Development tax is collected from any person who rents
or leases transient accommodations for a period of six months or less.
The
tax is collected by the owners or operators of the facility and remitted to
the Tax Collector. All tourist development dollars collected in Hillsborough
stay in the county yielding significant revenue to help finance a variety of
agencies, facilities and events to market Hillsborough County.
Funds are
allocated by the Board of County Commissioners to numerous agencies to
promote and support tourism.
