Students are encouraged to book appointments promptly as space is limited
TAMPA, Fla., Friday January 19 – Following positive feedback from students and parents, the Hillsborough County Tax Collector is bringing back its’ highly anticipated Student Saturday initiative next month. Designed to make driver license services more accessible, the inaugural Student Saturday event held last October to coincide with National Teen Driver Safety Awareness Month enabled more than 250 Hillsborough County teens to take their written or driving skills test on the weekend, eliminating the need to miss school or work.
“The success of our Student Saturday events last year showcased how important accessible, attainable licensing services are for teen drivers and their parents.” said Tax Collector Nancy C. Millan. “In response to overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community, we are excited to bring back the Student Saturday initiative and continue to offer the highest-quality services to Hillsborough County residents.”
Following the inaugural Student Saturday event in October 2023, Parent Renee Nelson took to social media to praise the initiative and how it made life easier for her family, writing, “This made life so much easier not having to take time off work or school for our teen to get their permit. It was fast and fun. The entire staff was upbeat. They pushed the teens to advocate for themselves and had the parents take a ‘backseat’ as the child navigated the process. Super impressed!”
Bookings are now open for the next Student Saturday event on February 10 from 9am to 2pm at the East Tampa Tax Collector’s office, located at 2814 E. Hillsborough Ave, Tampa FL 33610.
Written and driving skills tests are available exclusively to Hillsborough County high school and college students who meet the eligibility requirements, including a valid student identification. Aspiring drivers are encouraged to pre-register early as there is high demand for these weekend slots.
